Review: Skin Hour Mattifying Day Cream

When I was new to mineral makeup, I hated how my oily skin made it impossible for the foundation to stay put. I thought that the oil-absorbing formula of my Ellana mineral foundation and finishing powder could withstand the greasy quality of my skin, but even this eventually loses its opaque quality several hours after application. What I needed was a good makeup base, something that provides oil control while moisturizing my skin and keeping my foundation in place (I don’t want to have to apply two different creams). While shopping at The Good Earth a few months ago, I bought the Skin Hour Mattifying Day Cream because the product blurb described exactly what I was looking for.
A day cream that is non-clogging and oil free. Controls excess sebum the whole day. Also acts as makeup base that makes makeup long lasting. Contains pineapple extract known for its skin clearing properties and carrot to fight skin aging. Serenity variant gives a sweet yet subtle surprise to one’s face. The day cream also has SPF 15 for sun protection.
Little did I know that I just stumbled upon the secret to budge-proof mineral makeup!

I can’t believe I haven’t done a review of this product sooner because I’m not kidding when I say that this is one of the most important makeup purchases I bought this year. I don’t know how the Mattfying Day Cream can keep my mineral makeup looking fresh for hours, but it does! Not only does it make my foundation stay put, it also makes my skin look dewy rather than oily. In fact, I had to buy a real makeup remover to wash off my mineral makeup because facial wash and water just couldn’t cut it anymore. I don’t even apply a whole lot for the moisturizer to work – just enough to coat two fingertips. Added bonus: while it has titanium dioxide for sun protection (a physical UVA/UVB blocker), my face doesn’t get a white cast when I wear this at night.
If you have oily skin and wear mineral foundation on a regular basis like I do, I highly recommend that you put on the Mattifying Day Cream underneath. My first jar is almost out and I wasted no time buying a replacement – it’s one of those products that require a backup. Oh, did I mention how inexpensive this is? The petite jar costs P200 (20g) while the standard jar costs P480 (50g). I usually get the petite one because I don’t wear makeup everyday (I work at home), and it’d be a shame if the rest of the jar ended up spoiling.
You can get the Skin Hour Mattifying Day Cream from resellers like The Good Earth or the Skin Hour Multiply site.

Ooh interesting! Does it feel hot or heavy on the skin? What does it smell like? Im curious :)

It’s not heavy at all – it’s very light, kind of like Clinique’s yellow moisturizer but with a very faint pineapple scent. And you really don’t need to use a lot. I just spread a thin layer all over my face. :)

How is the night cream working for you? Is it as light as the day cream? :)

I was wrong pala – the Clinique moisturizer is lighter and more watery. The night and day creams have the same thick consistency, but they don’t feel heavy and are a lot less greasy than the HHN ones. :)
nice product! how long before the product expires?

I’m not sure, it doesn’t say. I do know that organic products have a life span of 1-2 years, but you can’t tell how long it’s been staying at the shop before you bought it.

I’ve seen this at various online stores and at Shopsui Tiendesitas but have been ignoring it since I still have quite a few makeup primers in my stash. I never knew this little one could work so well. I should give this a try when I’m done with my makeup primers. Not that I need it really (my skin has been dry, sometimes a little too dry since November of last year). I guess it’s just my curiosity kicking in.
Great review, by the way.

Ooh! In that case, you should probably use a stronger moisturizer underneath. It moisturizes well for me, but that’s because I have combi-oily skin. :)
