Review: Revlon Colorburst Lipstick

When I first discovered Nyx Round Lipstick, I thought I would never want lipstick from another brand. They’re super pigmented, they come in a wide range of colors, and they’re dirt cheap at just P160. After several months, however, I realized that I was growing dissatisfied with Nyx’s mediocre staying power and needed an everyday lipstick that didn’t disappear too quickly. The makeup gods seem to have heard my prayer because makeup artist Eman de Leon invited me to try the latest from Revlon – the Colorburst Lipstick.

Even before I became interested in makeup, I was already using Revlon’s black cherry lipstick and Plump Sexxxy Lipcolor in Temptation (which I stole from my mom). Both lip colors were very pigmented and long-lasting, though the matte black cherry one was a little drying. In any case, my great experience with Revlon lipstick made me very excited to use my new ColorBurst lippies.

Revlon’s ColorBurst Lipstick is infused with Elasticolor technology, moisturizers, and antioxidants so that the lipstick can glide smoothly over your lips and stay put like second skin. It’s supposed to be virtually weightless and provides high-impact color immediately upon swiping. To reduce the need for constant reapplication, Revlon also added film-forming polymers that improve the lipstick’s staying power.

There are 20 colors in the Colorburst Lipstick line, each personally selected by Revlon’s Global Artistic Director Gucci Westman. Of the 20 colors, I was given three – Blush, Peach, and Raspberry.

More swatches and my review under the cut! Please excuse my chappy lips. I kept reapplying lip balm in between photos but they still look terrible.

Blush

I knew from the moment I saw the color swatch that Blush would be my new “my lips but better” (MLBB) lipstick. This pink-brown color resembles my everyday lipstick, Nyx RLS in Perfect. Like the other ColorBurst lipsticks, Blush has a subtle shimmer that’s hardly noticeable from afar.

Peach

Peach looks rather nice up close but orange-based lipstick like peaches and corals just don’t look good on me. Maybe I can make this work with the right eyeshadow color but until then, I’ll store it with my fuschia pink lipstick (which I’m also scared to wear in public).

Raspberry

Now this color is right up my alley! Raspberry is a juicy red-berry shade that’s easy to wear. If you’d like to try out red lipstick but don’t have the guts to wear puta red, Raspberry will help you get used to wearing vibrant lip color.

DO LIKE:

* The packaging. The matte lipstick case feels expensive and classy, plus I love the little fishnet detail. It looks trashy in a good way, like something a high-class burlesque stripper would use.
* The texture. Due to its satin finish, the lipstick itself is creamy and moisturizing. No need for lip balm underneath!
*Staying power. I’ll be honest – while the staying power is not significantly better than Nyx Round Lipstick, it does stay on my lips a little longer. I don’t feel the need to constantly check how my lipstick is doing, which is a really great thing. I only have to reapply after eating or drinking.

DO NOT LIKE:

* A little on the sheer side. The more natural colors are not as pigmented as I’d like; I have to reapply twice to get the bright pop of color that I want. It’s very rewarding once I do achieve it, but I don’t like having to keep swiping lipstick for that to happen.
* Kinda pricey. A tube of Revlon Colorburst lipstick costs P575. Maybe I’ve been spoiled by my cheap Nyx lipstick, but I’m not sure if I’d like to spend that much money on these lippies.

CONCLUSION:

If you’re choosing between buying Nyx Round Lipstick and Revlon Colorburst Lipstick, I strongly recommend the latter. Why? Even though Nyx is cheaper and provides more color payoff, they’re not locally available and it’s difficult to find the shade that suits you just by looking at swatches and photos. You’ll end up spending just as much money as one tube of Revlon lipstick for several Nyx lipsticks that you may or may not like. On the other hand, Revlon Colorburst lipstick is available in all department stores, and it has a wide range of 20 colors you can play around with. The brighter colors like Raspberry do provide that burst of color the lipstick promises, but the more nude shades needs a little more work. I’m still pretty happy with Blush though; I wear this all the time and the sexy fishnet packaging makes me feel like a real woman every time I put lipstick on. Overall, Revlon Colorburst lipstick is worth a look.

Mmm, loving the Raspberry on you! I always find that reds go great with our skin tone, and the berry shade is perfect for casual days.

Have you tried Maybelline’s Colorsensational line? They’re really pigmented, creamy, and have fantastic staying power. The price is right between Revlon and NYX, haha.

i actually like orange shades on lips… like any other shade, one also needs to find the right kind of orange for one’s skintone. back when i used to be fair, i go for peach or coral. since i got a tan, i like terracotta-looking ones or red-orange for night. in fact, i find that red-orange is a better deep shade for me than the usual cherry red or wine.
