Behind the Scenes of a Mimi and Karl Photoshoot

mom and dad

My mom, who is really big on family photos, decided that she wanted to celebrate their 25th wedding anniversary with a photoshoot from Mimi and Karl. In case you don’t know who they are, they’re one of the best wedding photographers in the country. They’re so good that couples with lots of money to throw around actually pay for their plane fare when they decide to get married out of town or out of the Philippines. It sure was an honor to get my photo taken by them!

outfit 2

Since we won’t get copies of the actual photos til weeks from now, I thought I’d share some behind-the-scenes footage.

outfit

Dress: unbranded from eBay
Shoes: Tonic from The Ramp

I tried my dress on for my boyfriend the night before, and he says it makes me look “deceptively sweet.”

shoes

These are my favorite pair of heels, even if I don’t wear them so often. Last year I fell in love with a pair of Ann Demeulemeester’s lace-up ankle boots at the spring 2009 catwalks, and I’d been searching high and low for an affordable dupe in white. I saw a random Multiply site carrying a similar pair, except it had thin stiletto heels, which I cannot walk in. So when I saw these at The Ramp, I pretty much startled everyone in the store when I screamed in total giddiness. I rarely ever wear them out, though. Even if they’ve got wedge heels, they’re still quite a bitch to walk long distances in – and apparently, yesterday’s shoot would involve a bit of walking and a lot of standing. By the last half hour, I was as cranky and disagreeable as a toddler who missed her afternoon nap.

I wanted to look as natural as possible, so I used the grays and pinks of my Alice in Wonderland Book of Shadows.

marielle

My sister Marielle wore a mod dress she bought on eBay.

bling

Marielle’s got bling!

taking pictures

My mom took this photo of me taking a photo of my sister’s bling. Meta!

with dad

With our dad, taken from my mom’s iPhone. I’m loving the grainy film-like quality of this picture.

I did my mom’s makeup too but I totally forgot to take a photo of it. In any case, I’ll share another batch of photos once we get the ones from Mimi and Karl. It’s not very often that I get my photo professionally taken, so I might as well fill your computer monitor with my fez. :P

  5. [...] It is difficult enough to get a schedule with Mimi and Karl on weekends, the day my daughter is available. Fortunately, she resigned from work just recently and scheduling was easier on a week day. It helped that she is an avid fan of Mimi and Karl. You have no idea how difficult it is to coordinate activities with two busy girls. (Lauren writes on behind the scenes of the photo shoot.) [...]

I love reading your blog! You are such a fashionista! Btw… did you know that you look like Denise Laurel?

Haha, thank you! I try. :D I don’t know who Denise Laurel is, so I Googled her after reading your comment. She’s very mestiza so I’m not sure if I look like her at all, but I find her pretty so I’ll take this as a compliment. :D

I got here from your mom’s blog. Looking forward to seeing the pics, if you’ll share them here. I’m sure they’ll be great. Usually I’d just bloghop, but I love your outfit. That hat is so rad.

Thanks! The hat headband is one of my favorite accessories. I’m glad I spotted it, and I’m glad it only cost a hundred bucks. :D
