I’ve been getting an insane amount of questions about my digitally-permed hair – how much it cost, where I got it done, how to care for it. You will find the answers to the first two questions by reading about my digital perm experience at Beauty Brick and my return to Beauty Brick 10 months later. The Female Network thread on perming is also incredibly helpful and provides other salon alternatives to Beauty Brick. If you don’t find your answers in these sites, let me introduce you to a very helpful resource called Google, which is how I discovered the salon Beauty Brick and the wonderful Mr. Shin. If I can use Google to learn all about digital perm and where to get it, you can too! :D
The matter of digiperm aftercare, however, is poorly addressed on the Internet, so I thought I’d help you care for your new curls by showing you how I care for mine. Please understand that these are tips that work for me and I can’t guarantee that they’ll work for you. I’m no expert on digital perms or hair styling, so any troubleshooting questions you might have about your hair will not be entertained, lest I give you the wrong advice. Instead, please address all your questions to Google or your hair stylist.
Now that I’ve gotten all these disclaimers out of the way, read on to find out how to care for digitally permed hair. What I like most about digital perms is that they’re actually very low-maintenance; it’s just a matter of adding one step to your normal hair care routine and changing up the products you use. Basically, there are two rules to caring for your perm: never comb the curls, and always apply product to keep their shape.

Upon leaving the salon
I highly recommend that you take a shower before getting your perm, because you cannot soak your hair in water in the first 24-48 hours after getting your perm. Well sure, you can still bathe the rest of your body, but make sure you use a shower cap or find some other way to keep your hair safe from water. The second time I got my hair permed, it was warm and humid from the rain, and I couldn’t stand the itchiness on my scalp. So I showered 24 hours after getting the perm. As far as I can see, my hair is still pretty wavy. But if I were you, I’d resist the urge to shower until 48 hours after the perm.
It’s worth mentioning that the curls will lose its Goldilocks quality after your first shampoo. After all, digitally permed hair is supposed to look naturally curly and bouncy, so don’t panic if your curls look nothing like the photo above once they’re clean and shampooed.

Washing your hair
You may wash your hair as frequently as you wish, using any kind of shampoo or conditioner. I use Human Heart Nature’s Guava Moisturizing Shampoo and Avocado and Seaweed Moisturizing Conditioner because these are the only two products I’ve tried that don’t dry up my curls – and believe me, digiperm curls get very dry if you use the wrong hair products. Also, they smell great. Please don’t ask me to recommend other shampoo or conditioner brands, as I’ve never used anything other than Human Heart Nature since I got my hair permed.
Shampoo your hair as you normally would – rub it on to the scalp and lather up to your curls. Rinse, then grab your conditioner. Apply a liberal amount of conditioner onto your fingers then comb into your curls, untangling the knots as you do so. Make sure your curls are thoroughly coated with conditioner, as this gets rid of the dryness I just mentioned. Let set for a minute or two (or five if you like to take long showers). Rinse.
Drying your hair
I realized that different types of digital perms require different techniques of drying. During my first digiperm, where my curls were smaller, I just towel-dried my hair and left them alone to dry naturally. This kept my curls bouncy and otherwise intact. During my second digiperm, however, I requested for larger curls that will instantly unravel into waves after my first shampoo. After a week, I started hating my hair because the waves looked so limp and messy. One day, I was running late and used a blow dryer on my hair. For some reason, the heat gave the waves more body and made my hair look as nice as it was when it was brand-spanking new from the salon.
Long story short:
1) For small to medium-sized curls, towel-dry by wrapping the towel around the curls and squeezing. Leave alone to dry loose, as this results in bouncy, healthy-looking curls.
2) For waves, dry with a blow-dryer if you want to give it more body. I don’t recommend doing this everyday as the heat can damage your hair. I only blow-dry when I have to go out and look nice.
3) If these two techniques don’t work, experiment! Then let me know what hair-drying method worked for you so I can include it in this guide.
A note on towel-drying
I’ve had straight hair all my life, and I used to dry it by rubbing the towel all over my scalp and hair. The first few times I did this with my digipermed hair, I noticed that the curls looked crazy frizzy and awful. Thanks to a little research using Google, I discovered that rubbing the towel as vigorously as I did disrupts the neat arrangement of the curls and sucks out moisture from them. Instead, towel-dry your curls by gently squeezing the water out and wrapping your hair in a towel. You may squeeze the towel to get rid of excess water clinging to your strands. Remove towel and repeat as necessary.
Combing
DO. NOT. COMB. YOUR. CURLS. This is the first cardinal rule of caring for a digital perm. Not only will combing your hair loosen up the curls, but it’ll also make your hair frizzy as hell. The only parts you can comb are the ones untouched by the perm, ie. your bangs and the hair close to your scalp. How do I get rid of the tangles and knots, you ask? When you condition your hair. See the section on washing your hair.

Applying product
Once your hair is dry, apply product onto the curls to keep their shape. This is the second cardinal rule of caring for a digital perm. You can use any product you wish – mousse, hair wax, hair gel, etc. Place a small amount product on to your fingers, then apply by crimping/squeezing your curls. Don’t use too much product and make sure your hair is completely dry before doing this step. Otherwise, your curls will look and feel stiff. I use the Styling Cream from Human Heart Nature, which they sadly discontinued. The consistency is similar to hair gel and it has a light to medium hold. Anyone else know where I can get organic styling products?
Other tips
* Crimp your hair when you’re bored. I’d like to think that this kept the shape of my curls and that it keeps my hair wavy.
* Hot oil treatments are unnecessary if you already have a good shampoo-conditioner tandem that keeps your hair nourished and healthy.
* Tying your hair into a ponytail won’t affect the quality of your curls. Well, maybe it will. Ask your hairstylist about this. I can tie my hair back normally but I know of a friend who was warned to avoid ponytails.
* Depending on your hair type, digital perms last anywhere from 3 months to a year. Go back to your salon for a new perm once you’re unsatisfied with how the curls look.
Your hairstylist should actually provide you with most of these aftercare tips. If he or she doesn’t, I wouldn’t go back to that salon again. It’s a hair stylist’s job to teach you how to care for your digitally permed hair and for the money you’re paying, you should be receiving this kind of service from the salon.
I hope this guide was helpful! Feel free to throw in some of your own digital perm care tips so I can share it with everyone else. :)

Hi!
I’ve been a lurker of your blog for a while now, and I’ve also had my hair digitally permed (actually I think mine is digital setting – which basically means medium to big curls) from Tony and Jackey salon thrice already, the last one being a couple of weeks ago. And I’d like to add some tips/products to the ones you mentioned in here =D these were tried and tested by me for my past 3 digiperms:
1. in terms of shampoo and conditioner routine, I’ve heard from some who’ve had digiperms that it lasts more if you don’t shampoo everyday. I personally can’t do this as I’m very OC when it comes to my baths, so what I do is rotate shampoo and conditioner each day (shampoo today, conditioner tomorrow, and so on). I use Himalaya Herbals Protein shampoo with conditioner, and Himalaya Herbals Protein conditioner. I’ve used Human Nature before my perm and it dried my hair out =(, so I’m a bit scared to try it with my perm. So far, the shampoo/conditioner duo from Himalaya herbals does the job.
2. from my past digiperms, in terms of after bath products, I’ve tried White Rain mousse and Citre Shine curl booster. Both maintained the curls well but the mousse feels a bit waxy, while the Citre Shine curl booster is expensive (actually both are) and feels sticky if you use too much. Since this third digiperm is a bit spur of the moment, I had no product to use, so I tried my husband’s Gatsby hair gel (I forgot the exact name but its the one in the white opaque tub, and in cream form) and it really held (or is it hold) the curls well without the sticky feel =D And since I’m also OC with products, I’m also currently trying out Himalaya Herbals Protein cream. Its not really for curly hair, but it makes my hair shiny and minimizes (more like eliminates) dryness and frizziness.
I hear the Himalaya Herbals shampoo is really good! I don’t want to try it though because I like to use organic products on a daily basis, and those have parabens. The first Human Nature shampoo and conditioner I tried dried up my hair like crazy, but I realized I was just using the wrong variant (the strengthening one). Then I switched to the moisturizing variant and it was seriously like magic – no dry curls, and no need for hot oil treatments! I think anything that isn’t the moisturizing variant really does dry up hair.
Hi Lauren! I really enjoyed reading this! I’ve never seen so much info on digiperm aftercare! Anyway, I get my hair digipermed regularly, been doing it for years at different salons. Mr. Shin’s really the best, I made up my mind to keep going there after reading your post before. According to him, my perm’s been maintained well, and honestly I don’t know how since I don’t do anything but wash and wear, but I’d like to contribute some tips:
- Digiperms work amazingly well on buhaghag wavy hair like mine. If you have thin straight hair, you have to work more to keep the curls.
- I put Kerastase Oleo-Relax in my wet hair, mostly on the uncurled portion, and almost always just air dry it. It really works to keep your hair looking less damaged. After that sometimes I put gel or wax but using gel or wax sometimes makes the curls more tight and looking less natural, so smoothing after product like Oleo-Relax (there are so many cheaper ones out there that do the same thing actually) only, after the first few weeks of having your hair digipermed, really works well.
- Mr. Shin told me not to dry with an electric fan. When I do, my curls look terrible! :o When my hair was long enough, I used to tie my hair up in a curled up bun and let it down later in the day after it’s more dry. The curls look great and I’d get so many compliments within a couple minutes, so that’s a good way to dry your hair when you’re in a hurry!
I had a perm in March 2010 from Tony and Jackey. It lasted good and long. Kept getting compliments like (parang artista yung curls) although since I didn’t feel much personal attention during my visit and due to mixed reviews from Tony and Jackey, I’m a bit hesitant to go back to a different branch. I did like the perm though.
Digiperm wise- it worked well with or without product (before perming my hair was thick wavy buhaghag) and surprisingly it worked much better with this cheap Gatsby gel (PHP 17 for a small bottle) for the goldilocks look. The mousse (finesse brand) gave a softer wavier look, but just using Sunsilk Curls Waves and Bounce shampoo and conditioner (phased out) and crimping and sectioning my hair did the trick on most days. It was really great for a good four months, and then for the next three months they were like loose (still good) waves. I liked the fact I had a different look just by growing my hair out
I had another perm done (cold Perm Bench Fix Bicutan) over it by January 2011 when the T&J perm had grown out… as a whim. Big mistake. It looked terrible no matter what I did for four to five months. Only when it began to loosen did it look natural. To care for my cold perm, I’d roll my hair up in a Heidi Bun (split the hair into three sections when it’s just damp, then twist in opposit directions, afterward, roll the three sections into a bun). By lunch time, I’d have loose natural waves that held for most of the day without product.
I am hesitant to use human nature products because when I tried using the conditioner on my hair it really brought out the frizzies. but thanks for the input.
Hi Lauren! :) I also use Himalaya Herbals Protein Shampoo & Pantene Curly – Dry to Moisturized (bought this in Duty Free), and so far the tandem gives my curls everyday moisture that it needs. :) I’ve used Human Nature Moisturizing Shampoo & Conditioner when my hair was still straight, and I love how my hair doesn’t dry. When I tried it with my curls though, it just doesn’t get enough moisture as I want them to have. =( So my hunt for the perfect tandem started. I care for my curls like babies and give them a once a week treatment at home (Schwarzkopf Bonacure Hairtherapy Moisture Kick Treatment). Thanks for the advice! It is pretty comprehensive. And yeah, your’e right about DO. NOT. COMB. YOUR. CURLS. :D
hi lauren! i’ve been wanting to have my hair permed and i think beauty brick will be the perfect salon to have it done. BUT i have a BIG problem… I cannot afford paying P3000+ for digital perming. I’ve been reading your blog for a year now and you seem to be a really kind person. Can I borrow P2000? Coz I only have P1500. :( :( :( PLEASE LAUREN. Just eamil me if you are interested to help me. God bless. Take care coz I care.
LOL you’re kidding, right?
Hahaha!
One more Hahahaha!
Amazing
seriously?!?!
HI LAUREN! I REALLY LOVE YOUR BLOG! KEEP POSTING! :D
I learned the “DO.NOT.COMB.YOUR.HAIR” trick only recently. I stopped rebonding my hair after that. This works for naturally curly haired girls too. :D
where can i buy the human nature shampoo products and himalaya’s shampoo?
Ms. Lauren, if i may ask? Where can I buy human heart nature shampoo and conditioner aside from their website? I’m scared to use my credit card online kasi. lol.
I have two friends who are resellers! Try theislandberry.multiply.com or earthlydelights.multiply.com. :)
There’s a kiosk in Trinoma (near National Bookstore) that sells Human Nature products.
they also have the human heart nature variants at powerplant mall supermarket=)
I’ve been super obsessed with getting a digiperm since my cousin got one. Trouble is, it’s SUPER expensive here in Europe (and i don’t think they do it very well) so I’m going to get it done when I get home to Manila. I will definitely try Mr Shin, it looks so awesome!
hello. I just had my hair digipermed last saturday. as I was told by the hairstylist, I have to wait for three days before I can actually wash it. after I shampooed my hair this morning, it turned out that my hair loses its curl! :S what happened?
Hi.
What’s weird is after I got my hair digipermed, the owner instructed to the assisting staff to wash my hair. When honestly it looked better unwashed.
And now I kept on reading tips about not washing the permed hair for like 24-48 hours.
Which is which? Should I go back to the salon ask why they did so? And the only tip the owner gave me was to keep it moisturized. WTH?! He never even recommended any particular product to use other the one they’re selling for Php 650 which I didn’t buy.
Please give me some advice. Thanks
Where did you get your perm done? I don’t think you should go back there again. Leave your hair unwashed for the next 24-48 hours. Get a hot oil treatment once a month if your hair gets too dry. The purpose of using product is to maintain the shape of the curls, so any product will do as long as long as it stiffens the curls a little.
hey ms i got my hair digi permed last week, and i don’t know what kind of mousse to use. will you please help me with what kind of mousse should i use, because i didn’t buy anything cause I’m new to my hair. thanks for the reply.and i don’t know also how to maintain curly hair. and i also have excessive hair fall.please help me for the mousse that cannot add extra hair fall, I’m getting bald i think.. :(
P.S mousse that can be bought in Watson. thank you.
Um why not just go to Watsons and see what they have?
i did go to watsons and i only find 1 mousse brand. lol.. their out of stack for the other brand. hmmm i only bought wax but i will buy mousse later. thanks for the reply ms. Lauren.
and my one more problem is. i dont know how to properly apply wax..huhuhu.
I did the digiperm 3 days ago.
after i washed my hair, the curls almost gone…
do you have any method to get them back?
or they’re suppose to be like that?
Hi Lauren! Thanks for this. I’ve been torn between Tony and Jackey and Be@uty Brick for quite some time now.
I am planning to have my digi perm tomorrow and I think I’ll go to Be@uty Brick. But I have one question.
The 3,600 price for digi perm —is it fixed or will still vary depending on the hair length and type? I noticed that
you have different hair length on your 1st and 2nd digiperm experiences.
Thanks! :)
Hi Thanks for the informative peice. I just got my hair permed. CAn I ask where you buy the stuff? I’ve been looking around and maybe I’m haven’t looked at the right places but I can’t seem to find the products you use or any products specifically for curly hair for that matter. Hope you can help.
Hi! Your looking for HHN styling creme alternative, right? Well, me too. Have you heard of zen organics? They have that organic hairwax which I think will be a good substitute for that discontinued HHN product :( Maybe you can try this one and post a review about it. I searched the net but I haven’t found any reviews of it as of now. I know I might bit sound like an advertisement, but’m not advertising this product. =D Also, have you found any organic styling creme yet?
Hi Lauren,
Have you found a nice alternative to your Human Heart Nature styling cream yet? I used to apply Finesse Curl Defining mousse on my curls and it made them really stiff. Thanks in advance!

hi there, uhm i just want to ask if it’s okay to digi perm a rebonded hair?because my hair is always rebonded but i want to try digi perm..but a bit scared because i’ve read some blog and their hair was buhaghag and super dry after they got perm…btw my hair is long just like your’s how much it will cost?sorry for too many question, but pls give me some advice thank you in advance :)
Hi Lauren, do you if Beauty Brick can be contacted through emal for inquiries and appointment? I’m abroad and will fly in to Manila at the end of the month but I wanted to make an appointment ahead of time, coz I want my hair done as soon as I arrive.
Hi Lauren!
I went to Beauty Brick last saturday and I could not wipe the smile off my face after I saw the results of my digi perm.
Now I’m facing some ‘buhaghag’ with some of my curls. I’ve also switched to Human Heart Nature but I haven’t been WOWed by their hair care line. (Using the Strenghtening Shampoo and Moisturizing Conditioner)
Is it really okay for my fingers to run through my hair while I’m shampooing? I’m scared this will make my hair less curlier?
Hi Lauren, just wanna ask if where did you buy those human nature’s products? Thanks! :)
Same question with Joana :) Im a full time mommy and not a so good shopper, can i buy those products online? Thank u.
And by the way, Hows your hair now? =)
i did my digital perm 2 days ago..n i jst washed it due to itchy scalp..i’m using lucido-l hair foam to keep the curls maintained..i’ve been wondering to use the foam when the hair is wet or after the hair is dried?
Hi Lauren!
I will just ask after how many months can I get another digital perm? Thanks!
I think 6 months is a good time frame, as long as your hair is healthy. That’s how long I wanted til I got the next perm. Besides, the curls were already starting to unravel by ten. :)
hey girls. are u still looking for that acapulco mango styling cream? i saw 1 at ebay.ph and some at sulit.com … ps: im not in any way connected to these sellers.
i just had my hair digipermed today at beautybricks. mr.shin gave me the medium-large curls. but he refused to give me bangs. lol. im chubby so that explains it (thou i really want long bangs – the up to the lip kind..) i also wanted more layers but he didnt do it either.. dunno.. i think he doesnt like me=(
it has just been 8hrs since i walked out of the salon but some of my curls are already limp. and the worst part is, the hair nearest to the face has no more curls just 1ugly wave! uggh! i tried to twirl & crimp but failed =( its not their fault thou, evertime i get something done to my hair (rebond, straight, blow dry..) this part always go the other way like a rebel. i get a rebond – it bends. i get a straight- fly aways. blow dry – doesnt hold.. anyways, ill call tom and see is i can get a retouch or maybe mr.shin would finally agree to make long bangs out of ‘em=D …or is it just normal?
1 more problem is that i already have tangles & frizz above the perm and everywhere. and also im doing a bad job on the twirl & scrunch thing because it results to small goldilocks curls from top to bottom.. oh gosh i have no clue what im doing! i think i just wasted 4k coz i dnt know how to manage my hair!
on products to use, i think i wanna buy the herbal essence totally twisted shampoo & conditioner just because i like the name=p (any1 tried ‘em? are they any good? ..and hhn because u said so + theyre cheap=p but still not decided yet – taking my time anyway i wont be using it til saturday.. still looking for what mousse to buy(cant use wax, i need to put the holding stuff agad or else tatamarin nko….
btw i have just a little below waist hair length. i was charged 3700 for the perm + gave 300 tip.. their price range is 3300-3500 but my hair is really long daw kaya 3700..
(sorry for the long post) STAY BEAUTIFUL=)
Really? Surprised you paid P3700 for this… I also have really long hair but I only paid for P3500… I just had my hair done yesterday and didn’t wash it today just so that the medicine would set in well… Hoping that the curls would last long… :)
wow i got mine done for P8k at Antonios, considering my hair is just a few inches below my shoulders… this was just last week, now the curls on one side are starting to straighten out into a wave while the other side is still pretty curly… i should go try Beauty Brick next time.
Thanks for the advices! great blog! :)
Hello! In what malls can I buy human nature products?
hi, i saw human products in the fort, particularly in serendra
Hello thank you! Btw, may I ask where is it exactly in Serendra? Thanks!
Hi. Your blog convinced me to try beauty brick last year, and now I’m ready to have another one again. Aside from the more affordable price of digiperm compared to other salon, they do provide excellent service.
With regards to beauty products, the pricey “small talk” by bedhead works best for me. I am a professional events host and in every party that I go to, I just shower, towel dry, put the product on my hair and twirl them towered my face.
hi lauren,
i saw a voucher in ensogo for digiperm in Nikki Bacay salon and co, cost only 3000, i am a little confused where to go to, beauty brick or nikki bacay. the difference with Nikki Bacaya they use collagen that makes the curly hair bouncy and shiny, i dunno with Beauty Brick, please help. thank you. BTW i like your blog esp about hair care. I tried the lory’s deep moisturizing its SUPERB. makes my curly hair soft and manageable
Like I’ve said, I’m not a hair expert and I have no idea what Beauty Brick puts in their digiperm formula. Better to ask them instead!
Beautybrick also uses collagen. Para raw hindi madamage yung hair.
that’s true.. had my hair digipermed by beauty brick yesterday…they applied collagen to my hair =)
i got my digi perm last August 2, 2011 at a professional korean hairstylist salon near our place. After all the process i felt very satisfied with the result. My hair before was so stiff and frizzy but now since they only use Loreal products, it was even shinier and moisturized..my hair was naturally black and i noticed that its natural color was much more glowing now.they told me i can wash it afterwards and i dont have to wait for 24hrs to do so.. and honestly i don’t do much of caring. i just wash it, blowdry it, and wear it! sometimes you can divide it in half and twist both sides to reveal softer curls.. ive got big curls and i always got a lot of complement from my pals and those whom i did’nt know personally but have seen me.They usually approach me and ask a hell lot of questions about where and how my hair was done etc.,.its a bit expensive yeah..but i must say that the price i’ve paid for it was absolutely worth it! and lastly i must add…the only key to feel beautiful is CONFIDENCE!
where did you have your hair permed? how much was it?
Hi guys from what I’ve read some of you have been wondering where to buy Human Heart Nature products ^_^ especially the styling cream that Lauren mentioned. I also have digitally permed hair by Mr. Shin just last Wednesday. I loved the curls! I am now praying that after I washed my hair today it will still almost the same curls.
Proud to say that I am a HHN dealer. I went yesterday in their main office and good news – Styling cream is BACK! So if you are interested just give me a message. Thanks
Good for you girls.. I was sooooo upset with my curls by Tony & Jockey.. This is my first time to have my digiperm medium curls.. After i wash my hair, it was sooooo dry. And i cant even style my hair. I was so confuse, this is horrible for me. I just want my hair straight again, but the thing is maybe i should wait for a couple months since they put a lot of chemicals into my hair..
I just have one question, can i have my rebond now? Or should i wait for a couple of months for me to have my rebond? I think they will not allow me to do that now, my digiperm is soooooo fresh, & i cant even enjoy it and not soooooo happy bout it =(
Funny part, i just use my flat iron just to achieve a straight long hair. Duh!!! =)
I just digipermed my hair lately and i was so frustrated with the messy hair after I shampooed it. I accidentally combed my hair all away on my first hairwash after permed cause I forgot about it! Guess it’s why my wavy hair is loosen up and messy now.. T.T Thanks for all the tips anyway!!
After trying several products, I found Monea Curl Defining Milk Hair Lotion to be the most useful to me. After washing my hair, I squeeze the excess water (don’t rub). I separate my hair into 4 sections (2 front, 2 back because my front curls are reversed or palabas). I put a small amount (around the size of a 5-peso coin), rub it in my palm and fingers then apply it on my hair from root to tip. I then twist that hair section and scrunch it. That’s it and then I leave it to dry. No blow drying.
Monea Curl Defining Milk Hair Lotion is available at Market Market’s department store (GF, hair products section). Someone said it’s available at SM Makati too but I haven’t checked. This is what it looks like:
http://2.bp.blogspot.com/–oUAc7PwZxk/TuBUW59pDGI/AAAAAAAAGJM/rO-A9MwXUBc/s1600/IMG_3296.JPG
Forgot to mention… The Monea Curl Defining Lotion eliminated much of the frizz that annoys me so much. BTW, I went to Lourd Ramos’ Creations Salon at Glorietta 5 to have a hair treatment, I had a gift certificate kasi. It was 1 week after I got my digiperm at Beauty Brick. I was scared but sayang naman yung GC and I asked if it’s ok that I have a newly permed hair. Sabi nila ok lang daw, it won’t straighten my curls naman daw. Ok sana siguro but how they dried my hair is just so wrong. If I didn’t tell them to just twist it, they would have combed my hair dry. They used a diffuser which doesnt really helped much. My hair was ok when I went out pero I started to lose my curls as I was going home. I was so horrified I washed it as soon as I got home and dried it the right way.
I just got my perm 2days ago an OMG! I have wash my hair after several hours because i cant stand of my head itchy. It is will make my hair loose the perm?? I didnt use any product for hair perm & ur acticle is helpful. Thanks!
Hi Lauren,
I’m glad to have seen your blog posts before and after my digiperm… I also had it done at beauty brick… Got convinced by many of my friends and your blog as well… They do make a little bit fuss about your hair being a virgin and that the waves will look more natural… My hair type is the kind which is very straight and bagsak talaga… I’m keeping my fingers crossed that the curls won’t fall off easily just because of my hair type… We’ll see… :)
Ola! I just had my perm done @ David’s Salon and I was looking for perm tips.. then I found your bloggy! I just combed a part of my permed hair which was kind of messy and now I’m really stressed because it went frizzy, I didn’t know that it was a no-no since it’s my first time to have this! >:( do you think I should go back there? Can they do something about this? Any help would be appreciated… thank you!!!
Before you go back, try washing your hair again and drying it this way:
1. Squeeze excess water
2. Separate into sections
3. Twist each section
4. Scrunch the twisted sections (Just like how the Beauty Brick people did it. You will look like Goldilocks for the meantime)
5. Let it dry naturally. Don’t untwist your hair yet if some parts are still wet.
Notes:
- You may comb your hair BUT only the top parts where you dont have curls.
- Scrunch your hair as often as you can.
- You can use products like Monea Curl Defining Lotion or Hair wax, whichever is hiyang to you.
If these doesn’t work then you should definitely go back.
me and my sister had our hair digitally perm at sir george. we were very disapointed, the curls are not obvious. the salon claims that a mousse is really needed for the curls to be seen (is it true?). when we apply mousse the curls will form but does not lasts long ( not even half of the day). thanks
no.. i dont think so, they have said initially, the curls are supposed to be tight since it will eventually loosen in time. And the mousse are used just to help you manage the curls… it wont do the curling…

Hi! Thanks for your informative blog! I love my newly permed hair. It’s been a week but I think I did something wrong when I got home after hair perm. I didn’t like it at first so after 2 1/2 hours I washed it with human nature shampoo and cream silk conditioner. Well it was still curly since then but I’m worried that it would lose the curls soon. Do you think that if nothing happened after washing it then there’s nothing to worry about?
I had my digiperm February 2 at Beauty Brick by Mr. Shin and it’s still as gorgeous as ever! I think the secret of maintaining the curls is to not comb it, scrunching the hair until it dries, and use wax to hold the curls. I combine Vitress and Gatsby hair wax… :-)
I just had my hair permed two weeks ago and I am very satisfied with the results. Everyone at Beauty Brick was really nice and helpful! I paid P3500 for my bra-length hair, which includes a trim.
The staff gave me great tips on how to keep my curls intact. They gave me so much information, that I wish I had recorded all of it! But here are some of the tricks that have been working well for my previously limp straight hair:
- Apply wax for tighter curls: Divide your hair into two sections and twist towards your face. Continue twisting. Once the twisters are dry, loosen and apply product. Very important: hair must be 100% dry before applying hair wax! Scrunch your curls.
What I use: Fix Rock and Rule. Comes in pocket containers that’s perfect for my purse!
- Apply mousse for loose curls: Mousse is recommended to achieve those beachy wave curls. I prefer this because I don’t have to wait for my hair to dry (blow drying nor fan drying is allowed). Very important: hair must be loose and damp. Then scrunch along with the product.
What I use: Finesse Mousse Curl Defining
I am very particular about combing my hair. I was told that this is ok as long as it’s still wet and I have been doing it. So far my curls are still in place :) I’ll probably take it easy on the shampoo and alternate it with conditioner alone. I’ll see what happens!
Hello! I’ve read the blog and some of the comments above and (I think) it made me more curious about digital perming. I am also planning to have my hair permed but I still have some questions in mind and I hope that you could help me solving this one.
1). Where could I have a digi-perm?
I am planning to go to Bang’s Tony and Jackey since that is the only Korean salon that I knew of, not until I started reading this blog. After reading about the Beauty Brick, I felt that I would also want to go there. (Since the price of digital perming in both salons are the same.) Now I am confused.
Can you give me an advice on where to go for a digi-perm? I am finding it hard to search everything on Google and I think it’ll be better to ask from someone who had done this already. Thank you!
hi lauren… my hair is rebonded last may 30 , 2011. do you think its okay for me to get a digital perm today?. thanks you
Hi my name is Kai.. I had my digital perm last saturday. My hair is naturally straight but I had it rebonded before. But since I was trying to go for a new look, I decided to have it curled. At first, it was ok,but not the type that I have been expecting. ( its Bouncy and its not loose curls!!!!) However, my stylist told me that the curls will loosen eventually. My dilemma started wen I washed my hair! It was still curly, but its unmanageable. Its really dry too… huhu. Im starting to get frustrated. And like wat others, it looks like goldilocks curls! And I dont like it! I have mousse, curl booster, loreal spray, but still, I cant work it out…=(… Sadly, I paid 4800 for this.. please help…
Hi, I just want to share my Tony & Jackey experience.
I had my digiperm done last saturday at Tony & Jackey, Market Market. I went there because of the P3,000 promo, but I ended up paying P6,000 because I was told that since I have dyed my hair the more expensive treatment would be much more suitable.
I have fine naturally straight hair, and have been dyeing it since 2006. I’ve never tried perming my hair until last saturday. My hair is about 2-3 inches past my shoulders and they gave me medium curls. I’m quite happy with the results, and so is my dear hubby :) At least, it was a really good job for the sum I paid.
On hindsight, however, I should have just insisted on the P3,000 promo. I guess I was just too nervous about perming for the first time :)
I looked like Goldilocks during the first day, but my hair began loosening, so now it’s in ringlets. I hope it stays this way after I wash it tomorrow :) Btw, does anyone know where I can get Curly Hair Shampoo by TRESemme? Thanks :)
