This simple outfit may not look very experimental, but then I never tuck my top in when wearing jeans or shorts. I’ve always lived by the style rules that say tucked-in tops make petite girls look short and dumpy, and should thus be avoided at all costs. Well, the style rules can suck it. I like how this polka-dotted looks when tucked into jeans, and it doesn’t make me look short at all. My mom actually said I looked great before I left and added that she used to wear outfits like this one when she was my age – red pumps and all!

Blouse: Playground Love
Jeans: Levi’s Modern Vintage
Belt: Promod (from the kitty dress!)
Pumps: Nine West
Girly briefcase: Candy Bags

I’m not really one to ask random strangers about what to do with my hair, but my indecision has reached a point where I’m paralyzed from making a decision. Problem: I’m starting to really hate how my hair looks. The waves are practically straightening out and I have to blow-dry after showering if I want them to show at all, which is very time-consuming. Right now I have three options:
1) Get another digital perm. This is the obvious choice because I know for a fact that I look great with curly hair. Honestly, the only time I ever felt truly pretty was when I started getting my hair permed. However, I don’t really feel like spending another three hours on a chair while my hair gets a chemical bath. And what with all my expenses this month, I don’t really feel like dropping P3,500 in a single afternoon. Not to mention that it’s time I changed my hairstyle, don’t you think?
2) Get a haircut – same length but straight and layered. I am strongly considering this option for several reasons. One – it’s cheaper, two – it will take one hour at most, three – I kind of miss having long, straight hair. However, it’s also pretty risky. My hair will only be as good as the guy or girl who cuts it, and I don’t really know which salon/hairstylist to turn to. I know I said that Mr. Shin gives great haircuts at Beauty Brick, but I need someone who’s an expert at long, layered styles and I’m not sure he’s the guy for it. I’m thinking about returning to Salon de Manila because they gave me a pretty nice layered cut (below) when I was growing my hair out from a weird, college graduation angst-induced scissor attack. Unfortunately I can’t remember the hairstylist who did the cut.

My other reservation about getting long layered locks is that it’s boring. Knowing my fickle self, I’ll probably get tired of it in a few months and feel the need to do something fun with it. Like get another digiperm, perhaps. Which brings me to option #3.
3) Get a cut and color. I haven’t gotten my hair colored since the day I asked for blonde streaks and ended up with a whole head of blonde hair. Never again. I’m thinking it might be kind of fun to color my hair a nice shade of dark brown though. Only problem is that I’ll have to get the roots retouched every month or so, which can get too expensive and time-consuming for my cheapskate, lazy self. And no, I refuse to ruin my hair by doing a DIY dye job.
So, which shall it be? Option one, two, or three? For option two – care to recommend the salons and hairstylists you swear by?

I’m getting quite bored with my hair, too. I’ve been growing it out so I could get that digital perm but it’s taking soooo long :p
If I had your choices, I’d go for option 3 – A different hair color works wonders ; )
P.S. I love your top! It’s so dainty & sweet.
How long is your hair now? I got my first digiperm when I had medium hair. I thought it wouldn’t be long enough but it still ended up looking great. :)
Boob-length but I want the curls around that long that’s why I’m still growing it out.
Your curls look great at any length! :)
I’ve had variations of layered hair forever (since..1999?). From long, to short. And, I agree with you, there’s something magical about curls that makes one feel pretty.
I say COLOR (I love colored hair eh). It’s fun! :D
But I’m so tamad to maintain colored hair. :( Where do you get yours done?
my current hair color was done..at the supermarket during one of those “free application for every purchase” whatever things. haha :D
I have never had my hair professionally colored. Caramel brown would look great on you and your tan!
OR! get a semi-permanent color. It will fade away after around 4 to 6 weeks, so no need to touch up the roots. No maintenance needed.
I think you also look great with straight hair, but it just might be because it looks different to me. Different looks good. Maybe after a year or so with straight hair I’d say you look better with curly hair. :)) Also, contrary to popular belief, tucked in makes petite girls look more long-limbed, but I guess it also depends on what you’re pairing it with. I have a long torso so I tend to tuck in my shirts to make my legs look longer. Except if the look I’m really after is androgynous/boyish. :)
I have a short torso, so maybe that’s why my early attempts at tucking tops in kind of failed. I think it might also depend on where the waist of jeans end. Like if mine were any higher, I’d probably look really short!
Yeah, different is definitely good. Leaning more towards the cut, but I’m still not sure if I should get a color too!
I say go with color n cut. If u are going with an overall color (and no highlights that require stripping ur hair first) then I don’t see why u can’t keep up the color later on with a DIY kit.
It’s nice that u feel pretty with the digiperm, but I kind of prefer u with how ur hair looks now. The digiperm look gets boring too. What’s important though is what YOU like n what makes u feel pretty. In the long run, what’s 3 hours n a few thousand pesos compared with the confidence u feel from ur appearance? Good luck!
Well I’m definitely up for a change. :) Good tip about using a DIY kit for maintenance! I’ve never used one before though and I hope it doesn’t screw up the dye job.
I love your look! :D Am petite, too, and on the plus size, but I tuck my blouse/shirt still. hehehe But I think the redeeming factor are high-heeled shoes to go with the ensemble. ;)
True true! Heels can make all the difference. I love that height can be bought. :)
Dump the rule book, you look great in this outfit! If only I can find a pair of jeans that I can roll up like that.
As for the hair q, I also have curly hair (permed) and I’m also at that point where I’m getting bored with it but fixing long straight hair can be such a gruesome task in the mornings especially when I’m in a hurry. I think you look better with curly hair, but that’s just me. I think a perm and some color will suit you.
Oh, and a product that I use to make my curls stay pretty is Monea Curling Lotion. I just apply this on my wet hair then leave it to air dry. No blowers needed. Hope this helps!
Any pair of straight-leg jeans can work, as long as it’s not too tight around the thighs. :) I’ve never had a problem setting long and straight hair before. Most of my pre-perm haircuts were the wash and wear kind, which is also why I miss it! Still thinking about the color. I’m just really tamad to get the roots retouched.
You look really good doing the whole button-downs-tucked-in-jeans thing. It’s a very hard look to pull off and it’s something I veer away from as much as possible as I’m not very well-proportioned but you pulled it off so effortlessly! <3
Heh, I think you know which option I’d tell you to go for! How about trying a really dark red highlight? Not so much that you’d have to go in for retouches every month, but structured in a way that will still look good even when your roots show. (I’d recommend AZTA, by the way.)
I’ve been going to Tony and Jackey’s (Makati Branch) for more than 3 years now, I trust them more than other salons. My favorite stylist is Ms. Hani but she moved to the Market Market branch. :( Ms. Hani gave me a straight (super) edgy cut which evolved into a romantic style when it grew longer. :) I think the other hair stylist in Tony and Jackey’s can do that but there were some stylists I didn’t like, not because they gave me a horrible cut.. just a “blah” one
i just can’t help it, i love your total look!
Thanks! :)
I love the bag :) Tucking your shirt makes your legs actually look longer. As long as your trousers aren’t low on the hip it gives the illusion that the legs start way up from the waist and stretch on forever. I like your hair on option #2. I’d also recommend color and cut because it’s summer! For cut I go to Chris Romero of Basement Salon Shangri-la Mall (he’s a bit expensive though) and for color, Karino Montinola of Regine’s Salon in The Link Makati (next to Shang Hotel). I think I’m growing out my hair too because I want to change my look but ugh, it’s such a pain in the butt!
Ooh, I hear Basement Salon is really good. Growing hair out really is a pain, especially when it’s in that awkward in-between stage. That’s when hair looks at its worse, but you can’t really do anything to it cos you want it to grow longer. :\ If I looked good in short hair, I’d just keep it short and never grow it!
I love your bag.
Katie Holmes designed a bag quite similar to that one for leather company Valextra.
You look wonderful, Lauren. That outfit’s very flattering. I don’t tuck my tops in either, but I might just give it a try :P
Do they really have to cut the hair 2 inches before doing the perm? Because my hair is about below my shoulders so it’s not really that long. And do you think that perm will look great on a hair that is not-so-long? TIA! :)
There’s a trim before the perm, but I don’t think they cut off 2 inches. :) I can’t really comment on your second question cos I’m not a professional hair stylist and I don’t know what you look like!
