Kotex Luxe Ultrathins Giveaway

EDIT: ALL FIFTEEN SLOTS HAVE BEEN FILLED! Feel free to participate in the discussion, but those who comment after Bagel will not receive a sample.

My dad is in charge of doing the weekly groceries, and you can easily tell from the sanitary napkins available at home. Like most guys, he couldn’t care less about the difference between a regular thick napkin and an ultra-thin napkin with wings; to him, a napkin is a napkin and that’s all that matters. To me, however, an ultra-thin napkin makes all the difference in the world. It’s bad enough to experience menstrual cramps and be constantly paranoid about staining your dress; the last thing you need is some thick napkin clinging onto your panties like a wet diaper. Ultra-thin napkins almost make me forget that I’m on my period because they’re so thin and unobtrusive.

When I know that my period is coming, I make my own trip to the supermarket so I can buy the sanitary napkins I want. Not for my next period though, because Kotex just gave me samples of Kotex Luxe, their new ultra-thin napkins. Aside from the sexy black and hot pink packaging (I’m such a sucker for well-packaged products), Kotex Luxe is different from other ultra-thins because of their Fusion Technology that provides a nice dry feel, an ultra-absorbent core to avoid awkward leaks, and longer wings. Is it weird that I’m looking forward to my next period just so I can try this out? Maybe.

In any case, I’m going to let you try the napkins for yourself! I shall be giving away one sample box of five Kotex Luxe ultra-thin napkins to 15 readers of this blog. Here’s what you gotta do.

  1. My first period happened a month before I turned 11. The previous day, I had been trying out some yoga poses I saw in a magazine. When I woke up, there was a dark stain in my panties.

I didn’t know it was my period. All I could think was, “Oh no! I tore something because of the yoga!”

  2. I was at my grandparents’ for summer vacation a month after I turned 11. When I woke up and saw the stain, I knew what it was (I had been waiting for it all year!) but I didn’t tell anyone–not even my lola–because I wanted my mom to be the first person to know. She wouldn’t visit until the weekend (I think I had my period on a Wednesday), so I just used tissue (lots of it) and sneaked out to buy some napkins. I was very nervous (and embarrassed) about buying my first pack. When my mom arrived, she told my lola, who suggested I use pranela “because it’s soft.”

I was already almost 14 when I had my first period. By then every girl in my batch are already having their monthly periods and talks about what brand of sanitary napkins they used. I would feel envious and impatient and kept wondering when my period would finally arrive. When I was 12, I “stole” one of my mom’s napkins and wore it out of curiosity. When I finally had my first period, I knew what it was and I promptly jumped up and down three times (due to a superstition that if you jumped 3 times on your first day, you’ll grow tall. Yeah, I was a sucker when I was a kid.). There was another superstition I heard about, but it was too gross for me to do.

I have no funny memories with my first period since my mom is always at home and she always keeps two packs of napkin. But I remember having a cousin who threw away her panties in the river at the back of their house. My aunt discovered it when she saw a panty that accidentally got caught by a twig. Fun times.

I’ve had my first period when i was 11 and my mom was not home. Good thing one of my older cousins was there and had extra napkins. She also let me jump from the third step of the stairs and do some “first time menstruation beliefs” but one thing i did not do is the pamahiin to wash my face with the washed undies i used. :D i find it gross. :)))

  5. My first period was a very shocking experience for me. I was alone in my dorm when my first period came and I didn’t know what to do. I first thought of buying napkin but as a 13-year old it was really dyahe so I cut some shirts and stuffed my panties with it. What I hated most was when I stained my undies and skirt in school. It was humiliating and I don’t want my daughter to experience it!

I got mine when I was 12 (I think), while I was on my way to ballet class. Que horror! I didn’t know what to do so I stuck it out until the end of the class, and then when I got home rushed to the ladies room. Good thing our school gave us Modess freebies (sorry I had to mention the brand), then I was off to a friend’s party. I threw away my stained underwear afterwards.

I didn’t tell my Mom until the next day cos I was embarassed. LOL. (cue in “Dalaga Ka na” jingle by Johnson&Johnson) ^_^

  7. I was a late bloomer, when all my classmates were getting their periods I was one of the few who still didn’t get hers. I think our school did a good job of preparing us for it though because when it finally came I was not bothered and I already knew exactly what to do.

My mom AND my younger brother had to excuse me from class to tell me that I already got my period. They brought me some pads and a change of underwear. The helper saw my soiled underwear and told my mom. My mom brought my brother to school because he was still young back then and she can’t leave him at home alone.

I was really oblivious to to it all.

    True story.

i will never forget my first period because it was also my first asthma attack!

that time i’ve always envied by big brother whenever he had an asthma attack because he gets all the attention and my mom and grandparents baby him…well come to think of it, the illness runs in the family! can you imagine not being able to breathe properly and experiencing that icky sensation that was menstruating for the first time?!

my mom seemed like she doesn’t know what to do either, so she asked me to take a bath! haha!

First off, I’d like to start by saying that I love the way you write! I’ve been following your blogs and I actually miss your ukay blog too. Anyway, now to the first period story. :)

Mine’s pretty simple, I woke up, noticed something hard on my shorts (it was blood that dried already) and then my brother pointed it out. So it was my brother who first saw my first period blood…embarrassing. Good thing my mom was at home at that time so she drilled me on menstruation 101. :)

had my first period, when I was 9 and I was in school. Well, what I did was buy a roll of tissue and wipe it… har har
Until one of my teachers saw me (hehe) at the washroom and told me that I have mensturation. Good thing she have her period too, so she gave me pads.. :D

  12. Jet says:

I’m so excited to get a sample of this since it has been almost two years now since I’ve had last my period because I’m exclusively breastfeeding my 22-month-old daughter. This is the longest time without period so I think I don’t remember the feeling of having one haha and that makes me uncomfortable because of the bulky feeling of ordinary pads. Thank heavens someone thought of making a super thin pad to avoid this bulky feeling!

  13. Mich says:

I’ve got my first period on summer….(I was 11). We were all enjoying playing outside our house when my mom noticed that I have blood stain on my shorts. On my surprise I quickly ran inside our house with my mom then she told me that I have my first period. Since I was shy at that time to buy pads in the store, my mom did that for me.

After that my playmates asked me why I am not playing with them that day. I just simply told them that I am not feeling well but the truth is I am shy & that they might teased me.

  14. Bagel says:

I was 12 yrs. old then when I felt that my tummy is aching and then I suddenly felt the need to vomit. It was funny thought because I was feeling well the whole day and I don’t remember eating anything that may have caused it. After that, I felt really dizzy so I asked our school doctor if I can go home and she almost did not believed me because I look fine according to her. It was only when I peed that I saw stains and learned that I already have my period. And when I got home, my mother gave me a sanitary napkin that I don’t even know how it works. The first time was so uncomfortable and my movements were really limited.

  16. had my first “dalaw” when i was in grade 5.. usually my monthly period lasts a week long. my mom did lots of rituals to me when i got it hehe.. like jumping on the stairs.. washing my undies and wiping it on my face.. disgusting!she said it’ll help to lessen the blood flow.. lessen the pimples etc.. etc…. i followed it anyway. i love you mom :P
